CONWAY SPRINGS – It was a very good day for the Hesston High tennis team on Friday as it dominated a triangular that featured two of the other top teams in Class 3-2-1A.
Hesston defeated Conway Springs 8-1 and knocked off Central Plains, 7-2.
Singles winners for the Swathers against Conway Springs were Logan Gamble, Jorge Morales, Jeb Carlson, Rhain Isaac and Daniel Casimir.
Doubles winners were Morales-Carlson, Isaac Decker-Casimir and Gamble-Isaac.
The victory over Central Plains was huge as the Oilers are ranked No. 1 in the class.
Gamble, Carlson, Isaac, Decker and Casimir were singles winners, while doubles teams winning were Morales-Carlson and Casimir-Decker.
“This was a good effort by our kids,” Hesston coach Mark Dahlsten said. “Central Plains has been ranked No. 1 all year and is a very good team.”
Gamble’s singles win came against Devin Ryan, who was fifth in the state last year. The doubles win by Morales and Carlson came against a team that was second in the state last year.
The Swathers dominated Conway Springs for the most part as most of the wins were by comfortable margins.
