SALINA — McPherson College’s men’s tennis team is now in control of the KCAC race as it defeated arch-rival Bethany 6-3 on Sunday in a battle of teams that entered the day undefeated in conference play.
Because of the weather, the match was moved indoors to a neutral site as it was played at 8 in the morning at the Genesis Health Club.
Mac is now 6-0 in the KCAC while Bethany fell to 7-1. The Bulldogs ended the Swedes’ long stranglehold on the title last year and are attempting to repeat.
Mac started the day going 3-0 in the doubles matches. Successful teams were Ahmed Lahlou-Hector Carrillo-Perales, Jacob Turley-Andreas Huber and Julien Bodin-Daan Coppelmans.
Bulldog winners in singles were Lahlou, Carrillo-Perales and Bodin.
Mac has a busy schedule this week to close out the KCAC schedule. It hosts Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday, goes to Bethel on Wednesday and a make-up match with Friends is tentatively scheduled for Thursday.
The Bulldogs are 9-3 overall while Bethany suffered its first loss after 12 straight wins.
• WOMEN’S MATCH TODAY — The women’s match between Mac and Bethany, which was postponed, will be made up today. It will be played at 4:00 at the Doris Coppock Tennis Courts on campus at Mac.
