WICHITA — Friends University has a new women’s head basketball coach.

Heather Howard, who was at Northwest Missouri State last season, will be taking over a Falcon team that won the KCAC regular-season championship last year and played in the national tournament.

She replaces interim head coach Nicole Medder, who took over the team before the start of last season when RaeAnn Boothe resigned late.

Howard had been an assistant coach at Northwest Missouri, but later served as an interim head coach. She also has coached at Cornell College in Iowa.

Howard played her final year collegiately at Missouri Western, where she averaged 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds. She had transferred from Oklahoma State, where she played three seasons.

She played her high school basketball at Shawnee Mission West.
