8 Swede cagers honored for academics

LINDSBORG — A multitude of Bethany College basketball players have received Daktronics NAIA Division II Scholar-Athlete honors.

For the women, selections included Sarah Bartel, Shalie Dahl, Alex Tyson and Lauren Welsch.

Bartel is an exercise science major with a minor in coaching. Dahl is earning a degree in health and physical education for Pre K-12. She had minors in business and coaching. Tyson is working on a degree in criminal justice and Welsch is majoring in exercise science with a minor in coaching. 

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

The Swedes also had four men honored — Mitchell Brown, Baptiste Chazelas, Tyler Larkin and Reed Stephens.

Brown is a management major while Chazelas is studying theatre and communications. Larkin will graduate with a biology degree and is minoring in business while Stephens is a history-political science major.
