BUHLER — The McPherson Bullpups 16U battled back from a 12-1 deficit to pull within 13-8 of Buhler on Tuesday, but eventually dropped an 18-8 road verdict.
Buhler scored six times in the first and three times in the second to key a big lead before the Bullpups began their comeback with four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
"We definitely did not play the brand of baseball I like to see last night," 16s coach Heath Gerstner said. "We were not really focused from the start and credit to them for capitalizing on our early miscues.”
Gerstner said both teams, however, glisten with talent.
“I will tell you that the next three to four years, there are going to be some great Buhler McPherson baseball games,” he said.
Camdon Hames was 2 for 3, while Jaytin Gumm, Tucker Pelnar and Hadlee Backhus drove in two runs apiece.
Errors led to the demise as only nine of the 18 runs were earned.
The Bullpups stay on the road Thursday to take on Winfield.
