PLAINVIEW, Texas – Central Christian College’s basketball teams made another long road trip into Texas on Thursday with nothing to show for it.
The Tiger men played their usual close game as they were trying for their second straight win, but lost a 72-67 decision to Wayland Baptist, a team they have never beaten in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Central was down only 37-35 at the half, but the Pioneers went on a tear to start the second half to sprint to a 15-point lead.
But CCC showed a lot of grit, getting it down to 5 by the end.
Andrew Epps led the Tigers with 12 points, while Isaiah Rivera and Ben Glover added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The loss dropped CCC to 3-12 in the Sooner and 10-13 overall. It stays on the road Saturday to take on Panhandle State, a team it defeated earlier in the season.
WAYLAND BAPTIST WOMEN 114, CENTRAL 63 – The Flying Queens are ranked No. 5 in the country for good reason.
They swamped the Tigers from the get-go and led 56-19 at the half.
Holly Golden fired in 18 points to top Central, with Cieara Carter and Tania Lowe added 15 and 10, respectively.
The Tigers are now 2-13 in the SAC and 6-17 overall. They play Saturday at Panhandle State as they try for the season sweep of the Aggies.
